Understanding Insights

The Insights section in Search Performance highlights keywords that are close to ranking on page 1 of Google. These represent your best opportunities to increase organic traffic with minimal effort.

What Are Insights?

Insights shows keywords where your website ranks between positions 8-20. These are "almost there" keywords - with a little optimization, they could move to page 1 and dramatically increase your clicks.

Reading the Insights Table

Each row in the table shows:

Keyword

The search term people use to find your website.

Opportunity

A quick assessment of the potential:

  • High (orange) - Positions 8-11, very close to top 10

  • Medium (yellow) - Positions 12-15, good potential

  • Low (grey) - Positions 16-20, requires more work

Position

Your current average ranking for this keyword. Remember, position 10 is typically the last result on page 1.

Impressions

How many times your page appeared in search results for this keyword. High impressions mean lots of people are searching for this term.

Clicks

Current clicks you're receiving for this keyword.

Potential +Clicks

An estimate of additional clicks you could receive if you moved to page 1. This is calculated based on typical click-through rates for top positions.

How to Use Insights

  1. Focus on High opportunity keywords first - These are closest to page 1 and need the least work

  2. Look at impressions - High-impression keywords with High opportunity should be your top priority

  3. Check your content - Visit the pages ranking for these keywords and consider:

    • Is the content comprehensive?

    • Does the title include the keyword?

    • Is the meta description compelling?

    • Could you add more relevant information?

  4. Monitor progress - Check back regularly to see if your optimizations are working

Tips for Improvement

The tip at the bottom of the Insights table reminds you:

Focus on high opportunity keywords (positions 8-11) - they are closest to page 1 and need minimal optimization to rank higher.

Small improvements to pages ranking for these keywords can yield significant traffic gains.
